چکیده
I review the discovery of the color degree of freedom in hadronic physics, and the developments which led from that discovery to the local gauge theory of color, quantum chromodynamics.

The talk is an introduction into diquark condensation phenomena which occur in QCD at high energy density. They are driven by instantons and instanton-antiinstanton pairs (or " molecules "), which generate attraction in some qq channels. A number of phases is possible, with or without restoration of chiral symmetry: the work is not finished and we do not yet know which take place in real QCD. W...

In the vicinity of the quark-hadron critical point, in the phase diagram of QCD, simple power-law relations constrain the mid-rapidity net-baryon density profile, for different heavy-ion processes, in a unifying scheme. The corresponding scaling variable specifies the proximity of a given experiment to the critical point. An important phenomenological aspect of the critical properties in the ba...

The standard model for the electroweak interactions is known 1,2,3,4 to contain vortex solutions that are the usual Nielsen-Olesen U(1) vortices 5 embedded in the larger electroweak symmetry group SU(2) × U(1). After briefly describing these vortex solutions, I will discuss their stability and argue that the presence of bound states can stabilize them. Then I will draw an intimate connection be...
